First time connection
From the moment of getting my ID and Password I was online in about 5 minutes after setting up a Copper dial up entry and getting an access number at Copper.net online, though you can order a CD from them. There is no software download required just get your User ID, Password and access numbers on any ISP as standard. Computer users might find initial loggin into non software sites a bit slow at first probably having never used ther built in Dial network on their PC. The network dialer on your PC is virtually the same as those included with internet software on CD you get in the mail or order but its a little more manual in nature. You can save multiple locations on it But once you've done it once its a no brainer to use.
Dial network note: Using your Dial up Networking connection is exactly virtually the same as the Dial up protocol you use to access major dial up ISP except you use the generic version built into your PC. It can be configured with Phone, User ID and Password just like your Major AOL, MSN, Earthlink etc, for multiple locations if you desire (save a new dial up network for each phone number city location) You can paste it onto your Desktop for one click access and you are ready for internet access.
Access Numbers
I found that for searching for Copper Access numbers both at home and on the road it was easier to use the 'by state' access number search which gave a much greater and accurate phone number listing. With the 'area code' search i would often get only 1 non-local number vs getting 1 to 5 true local numbers by scrolling through the state numbers listing. Amazingly I found up to 5 access numbers for very small town locations, sometimes you cant find more than 1 local access numbers for larger US cities with some larger providers.
Using your Dial up networking connection
Setting up your Dial up network for easy loggin without software
First connection to Copper was uneventful and connections speed was equivalent to other providers per location tried.
Since Copper is a national access provider you can take your ISP service wtih you on the road whether for work, play, or if you move without any hassle. You can use the software on your laptop or again if you know how to use the generic Dial up Network built into Windows computers (I would guess Apple has the same) just use your User ID, Password and the local access number in your area and your online for internet access and email accounts. Copper is not an unlimited service but unless you plan on exceeding 6.5 hours everday online you're not going to hit the 200 hour a month limit and you get plenty of support to boot.
Final Note - worth the price, and the price is low. Is it for you? $1 trial a month is as close a free to try as you can get.
